Several years ago a tiny starving cat too weak to walk to a food dish was discovered at our back door. Too kind-hearted to watch him starve we have been caring for him ever since. Two years ago it was discovered that he was FIV positive. Since then Nu-Pet Feline Granular powder containing fish protein etc...has been added to his food with good results, however 6 months ago my vet recommended changing to this, Welactin Feline Softgel Caps. In all honesty I continue to add about half of the Nu-Pet powder as I previously did, but 1 softgel cap of Welactin per day has also been added to his food and appears to be making a difference. The now adult cat recently battled a severe infection that we believe he recovered much faster from because of the Welactin. I am not a vet but have been through more infections than I care to count with this cat and did see a quicker recovery from a particularly bad infection. I also noticed, before the infection and before one jar of these softcaps had been entirely used that his eyes were brighter, fur softer and just plain nicer looking, and he seemed to feel better. I have no problem administering this oil by mixing it in with his canned food. I do continue using the very smelly Nu-Pet power for the scent he is used to, but I believe, due to the fact that the Welactin oil really does not have a strong scent, that he would gobble it down without the Nu-Pet powder. The softcaps are also easy to use. Just snip the narrow end off and squeeze the oil inside onto the food and mix. With canned food it mixes well. I have not tried it with dry food. PLEASE DO NOT ATTEMPT TO GIVE THE ENTIRE SOFTCAP TO YOUR CAT, JUST WHAT'S INSIDE! The capsule itself is not meant to be eaten, just the oil inside. Discard empty capsule. I would recommend this for any cat with a compromised immune system. You should have a pretty good idea of whether it is beneficial before the first jar is empty. For the cost it is certainly worth a try.

My oldest cat has dry skin/itching issues. Previously I gave her 3V Derm Caps which I cannot locate now---I'm not sure what happened with the availability of those.
So in the meantime I switched over to giving her a Welactin capsule every other day - I think this works just as well as giving a gel cap every day and saves a little money too. She thinks it's a treat to get a little fish oil on her dry food; I especially feel good about this as dry cat food loses some of its nutrients during processing. Her fur was shiny before, but I think it's even glossier now - it's been about 2 weeks since I started her on the Welactin and I can already tell a difference in the condition of her fur and she's also scratching much less.
I don't notice much fishy odor at all when I break open a capsule. Just make sure you twist or clip off the tip of the softgel capsule, this capsule is not intended to be swallowed.
Nutramax Labs is a trustworthy manufacturer of pet products, I used their Cosequin product with my first cat for her joint issues and it worked fine, so I have the utmost trust in this product, too.
